Nature's Pharmacy

Nature can often provide all the healing ingredients we need. In fact, many man-made pharmaceuticals are created by imitating the active ingredients in natural plants. One of the issues with drugs, though, is they force your body to react. If it is already in a weakened condition, this can do more harm than good. Natural medicine is like handing your body the tools it needs to fix itself. The body has the wisdom and is ultimately the true healer.

There are many things in your kitchen that have healing properties and have been used with success historically. Onions; garlic; ginger; cayenne pepper; to name a few. These plants and many medicinal herbs can be grown in your yard or on a window ledge, depending on where you live. There is a plethora of information online; all one has to do is search a bit.

Not only is it interesting to learn that nature can heal you in a million ways, but it can give one a great sense of security and accomplishment to know that a natural pharmacy is at your fingertips and You know how to use it.

If you aren't facing a medical emergency, try some good old fashioned home remedies first. Typically, they are less expensive, better for you, can keep you and your children out of the doctor's office, and some of them are down-right tasty. There are actually recipes online for natural jello shots with healing ingredients. Look it up!

The Importance of Hydration

Next to oxygen, water is the most important thing a body must have to stay Healthy. Without proper hydration, many of the body functions can become impaired. Chronic dehydration can be deadly.

The body ranges from 50-75% water, depending on body size and age. The type of water you drink is also important. These days tap water is not recommended without being filtered, due to chemicals and other pollutants. There are a variety of filtration systems to choose from, including reverse osmosis, carbon filters, distillation, and more. You'll have to do some homework to decide which would work best for your needs. The better your water "tastes", the more you will be inclined to drink and the cleaner your water is, the Healthier for your body.

Caffeine and sugar are two substances that are notorious for dehydrating the body. If you plan to indulge, you will need to compensate by drinking more water. These two delicious culprits can also contribute to the depletion of your body's calcium and magnesium reserves, so you may need to increase your supplementation to mitigate these effects.

Fruits and vegetables are a great source for hydration, as are things like aloe vera and chia seeds. Did you know you can buy large leaves of aloe from many grocery stores? Slice, peel, and eat the interior like any other fruit. Seems a bit strange at first, perhaps, but the Health benefits are worth it. It's also very good for your skin and digestion.

Chia Seeds are tiny but powerful and the benefits are off the chart. Here are two excellent sites to learn more about ch-ch-ch-chia! https://foodrevolution.org/blog/chia-seeds-benefits/ & https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/food-features/chia-seeds/

Immune System Protocol

As with all medicines, natural and man-made, "due" your diligence; educate yourself and discuss usage with your doctor and other Health professionals. One thing to keep in mind is that natural/herbal remedies have been used historically - meaning they have been around for a long time. When used correctly, most are typically safe for adults and children.

Pharmaceutical drugs, however, have only been in use for the past century or so; most of them in the past 50 years. Some are extremely effective when used correctly, but almost all come with a list of side effects that can be worse than the illness being treated.

Here's another thing to keep in mind while doing research. When you read, “Has not been proven to help with C-19” [or any other ailment], or “Needs more research”, these statements are really meant to cause doubt and discourage you from using natural medicine. Most natural remedies have been around long enough that their efficacy is well-known. Millions of studies have been conducted, but big pharma really would prefer that you use their products. Since they have usurped most of the medical field, they believe they have license to caution the public on the use of tried-and-true remedies, largely since they can’t patent natural medicines nor make a profit on them. Hence all the warnings - to keep people "safe".

If the pharmaceutical industry truly cared about our Health and would like to be helpful, they would be perfecting the use of natural medicines, not hindering it. As always – your best bet is to live as Healthfully as possible to avoid needing any of these things.

The following info is mostly taken from the Healthline.com site, where you will find all the links to the various subjects listed below.

Vitamin D – Has been highly researched in connection with COVID-19 and has shown that it can expedite healing and stall inflammation in the respiratory system. Many professionals admit that Vit. D could possibly help protect individuals from the virus.
   •    Fat-soluble nutrient essential to the health and immune system.
   •    Decreases inflammation.
   •    Many people are deficient, which increases risk of upper respiratory tract infections.
   •    Can strengthen immune system; respiratory function; reduce infections; aid anti-viral response.
   •    1,000 to 4,000 IU of Vit D per day is sufficient for most people; much higher doses can be taken.

Zinc –
   •    A mineral essential for immune system function – anti-viral and anti-inflammatory.

Garlic has powerful anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties. It has been shown to enhance immune health by stimulating protective white blood cells like NK cells and macrophages. However, human research is limited.

Astragalus is an herb commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Animal research suggests that its extract may significantly improve immune-related responses.

Medicinal Mushrooms have been used since ancient times to prevent and treat infection and disease. Over 270 recognized species of medicinal mushrooms are known to have immune-enhancing properties. Cordyceps, Lion’s Mane, Maitake, Shitake, and Reishi, are all types that have been shown to benefit immune health. Quercetin belongs to a group of plant pigments called flavonoids, which are antioxidants that give many fruits, flowers, and vegetables their colors. Antioxidants have been shown to neutralize free radicals. It has been used to help with allergies, asthma, heart attacks, hypertension, arthritis, bladder infections, diabetes, and even cancer, along with a plethora of other illnesses that plagues mankind. Even though knowledge of quercetin has been around since at least 1857, has thousands upon thousands of studies and countless positive results, mainstream medicine still can’t confirm that it is actually beneficial, nor can they seem to decide if people should be using it.

Naturopathic practitioners of every description have seen the positive results in their patients and seem to have no qualms about recommending quercetin, especially if it is combined with Bromelain. It has most often been used by adults in doses of 250-1000 mg, by mouth daily for up to 12 weeks.

WebMD lists several drugs that could be incompatible with quercetin, including possible side-effects, cell pump inhibition, loss of the drug’s effectiveness, etc.; siting mostly that it “could change the effects and side effects of these medications.” They are very fond of saying things like “more study is needed”; “there is no clear evidence”; “it has not been proven”.

Nature gave certain foods to us to keep our bodies Healthy. It is stated in the Bible and has proven true for centuries, so it makes one wonder why our scientists cannot do some simple chemistry to show how and why. It would be very helpful if they could spend some of their lab time helping to set standards for how much should be taken by whom, based on their condition, age, and body weight to eliminate all the doubt about whether Nature's gifts are actual helpful.

Quercetin is a classic example of how natural medicine can give the body the tools it needs to heal itself. All of the natural medicines we have listed here are just that – tools that the body uses to heal itself. The body is the healer. It alone has the intelligence to repair the damage and sustain its Health, if only we will stop poisoning it.

Here's a list of recent studies of the biological and pharmacological activities of quercetin on the NIH website -
